With advancements in technology, teeth can now be whitened easily by professional teeth whitening treatments or by using home whitening systems. With several teeth brightening products available on the market today, individuals no longer have to live with discolored and stained teeth caused by age, coffee, tea and tobacco. Teeth whitening systems, procedures, and home kits make it possible for anyone to achieve the smile they desire. Below are some options you can choose from.

Over the Counter: There are a number of different teeth whitening systems and  products that are available over-the-counter. These include whitening toothpastes, gels and whitening strips. These products typically contain peroxide although the strength will differ among products. Some toothpastes that whiten teeth use abrasives to help remove stains instead of using a whitening agent such as peroxide. Over-the-counter whitening products are the least expensive way to whiten teeth.

Home Tray Whitening Systems:  Another option for whitening teeth is the use of a tray that is custom-made by a dentist and sent home with the patient. The tray is designed to tightly fit over the patient’s teeth and is filled with a bleaching solution that is worn either during sleep or for a certain amount of time each day. This teeth whitening system is more effective than over-the-counter whitening products, but when compared to in-office whitening procedures, the same results do take much longer to obtain. When comparing costs of in-office whitening treatments and tray systems, tray systems are less expensive, making this teeth-whitening system the most popular.

In-Office Teeth Whitening Procedures: In-office teeth whitening has also become one of the more popular treatments being performed by dentists today. Teeth whitening procedures often include the use of a bleaching agent applied to the teeth, followed by using a light directed onto the teeth, which activates the bleaching agent. This can result in significant brighter teeth in a short amount of time. These treatments are very effective, but can also be quite expensive. The most popular in-office whitening system is Zoom. This system comes in a kit, providing the dentist with all the necessary equipment needed to apply the treatment. Zoom teeth whitening systems are done by combining a whitening agent of hydrogen peroxide with an activating agent, which is applied to the teeth. A mercury metal halide light is then directed onto the applied whitening ingredients to activate them, accelerating the whitening process. Another in-office whitening procedure similar to Zoom is BriteSmile. Although BriteSmile is done the same way as Zoom, the light that is used is different, consisting of a LED light, which emits wavelengths onto the applied whitening agent. BriteSmile treatments are guaranteed to leave teeth nine times lighter after one treatment.

All of these teeth whitening systems can help you get that whiter smile that you have been looking for. Each whitening system is not for everyone, however whatever method you choose will help to brighten your smile. Cheers!
